Millwall have option to extend Gregory contract

MILLWALL have an option to extend Lee Gregory’s contract by another 12 months – but talks over the striker’s future have yet to take place.

Gregory’s current deal expires at the end of the season and he said after May’s League One play-off final he would be keen to discuss a new contract.

The 29-year-old centre-forward joined Millwall from Halifax in the summer of 2014 and has scored 56 goals in 157 games for the club.

He has previously been linked with a move to Sheffield United.

Millwall could trigger another year or discuss a new longer-term deal with Gregory.

The Lions also plan to hold talks with goalkeeper David Martin, who is currently sidelined for two weeks with a knee injury.

Martin signed for the club until January when he will be free to leave if no agreement is reached.

Martin, 31, has been back-up to Jordan Archer since August.

Meanwhile, Millwall are still looking for a first away win this season and this weekend play a London derby at Craven Cottage against Fulham, who have only one home victory in the league this campaign.

Lions boss Neil Harris is certain a first win on the road is just around the corner for his side.

“We’re not focused on it at all really,” he said. “What everyone has realised within the group and in the terraces is that every point we gain at the moment is a challenge. Every victory is important and every point you get away from home is a good point.

“We have to keep amassing the points away from home. We know the victory will come, it’s just a matter of time and we have to make sure we cut out errors.

“Fulham are another really good side but have struggled to pick up points at home this year. They keep the ball very well, they’re attack-minded and have excellent full-backs getting forward.

“They’re very dangerous with the ball and it’s another tough away game. On their day they can be unplayable.

“It’s a game that without the ball we have to be as good as we can be and then be better with the ball to try and hurt teams more often than we have so far.”
