MILLWALL defender Tamika Mkandawire has been named the PFA’s Player in the Community at the annual Football League Awards.

Mkandawire pipped Portsmouth defender Joel Ward and Reading striker Noel Hunt to the gong.

The former Leyton Orient centre-back is an ambassador for the Giving Youth Violence the Red Card scheme, which informs young people of the dangers of knife crime.

The 28-year-old has seen his season plagued by injury, having undergone knee surgery in November, although he is expected to return to first-team affairs with the Lions shortly.
